I had 4 months to plan my wedding and I decided to add designing my own wedding card to the list of things to do because I derive some sort of thrill from putting more than I can chew on my plate 😶
But I have to say, I am so glad that I did because now I have a beautiful piece of art that marks an important occasion to hang in our home, which acts as a reminder to all the fun we had!
My first time making watercolor floral paintings
This was the first time that I took a shot at properly painting watercolor florals. I’ve never felt drawn to paint flowers and I thought that I fill find it boring, but man, I can’t wait to paint more!
To be honest, I was actually a little intimated to paint the wedding card. I wanted to paint bougainvillea flowers because they hold a personal meaning for us, and I don’t know if you’ve noticed but that’s a tricky flower to paint!
Its layers, blunt outlines and its soft translucent look are quite a challenge to capture.
The process of creating a handmade wedding invite
I started with making a light graphite sketch of the flowers, and filled the edges of my watercolor paper to make a floral frame. Then I went over the pencil sketch with my oil colour pencils to give a clear contour to my flowers. And finally, I build depth by adding light layers of watercolor paint.
I scanned this handmade watercolour painting into my laptop and added the event details digitally on Canva.
